Xpresso your Speed and Power

The Xpresso is a pure Java Wireless chip. Zucotto offers an enhanced and optimized implementation of Sun Microsystems' KVM environment, enabling a world of Java programs and programmers to develop for the Wireless Internet. The high speed, low power consumption attributes of the Xpresso make it conducive to mobile multimedia co-processor, or for standalone applications. The Xpresso is built for velocity and built to optimize Sun Microsystems' KVM. It far exceeds the speed of C-compiled Java VMs running on traditional hardware. The Xpresso completes Zucotto's end-to-end RecipeTM, including application software and tools.

Zucotto's Xpresso family of processors offers a best-in-class hardware solution specifically architected for designers of mobile multimedia and wireless internet devices such as mobile phones, pagers and PDAs. Zucotto's SLICE works in conjunction with the Xpresso by using the most compact yet highly functional set of Java Drivers and classes to connect the KVM portion in software to the Xpresso core. The Xpresso family of processors is designed for use as a standalone proces-sor or as a wireless multimedia Java co-processor to speed up performance in multimedia intensive devices.

The Xpresso has up to 40 times the speed and consumes less power than chips that have been reworked for the Java market.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

High Performance and Low Power Consumption
With the embedded and streamlined SLICE, Zucotto's Support Layer and Sun Microsystems' KVM, the Xpresso has been built exclusively to take advantage of Java functionalities. The Xpresso has from 20 to 40 times the speed and consumes less power than other chips that have been reworked for the Java market.

Reduced Time to Market
The Zucotto Recipe of SLICE and the Xpresso quickens OEM's time to market, reducing the engineering time through the built-in integration of hardware and software. The Xpresso has the power for mobile multimedia co-processing or standalone Wireless Internet applications.

Less Memory
By providing only required functionality, the Support Layer eliminates the need for clumsy memory-consumptive operating systems. The clean slate development of the Xpresso Java processor, in conjunction with the Support Layer, has led to the increased efficiency and optimized func-tionality of the Xpresso.

Cost Savings
Zucotto reduces product stack size by merging application layer technology closer to the hardware, resulting in significant engineering cost savings in the areas of software and hardware integration. Licensing costs are also reduced as the Support Layer eliminates the need to license a conventional operating system.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
Architected specifically for wireless devices, the Xpresso family is notably differentiated by the following features:

  • 32-bit native execution Java Processor
  • Instruction set is lowest level, Java bytecodes
  • Less real estate with a 1.0 cm package size
  • 0.25 micron — providing the lowest possible power consumption
  • Superset of Java instructions includes instruction set for the best power management
  • Deep Sleep Mode enabled on the chip for ultimate power savings during idle time
  • On chip RAM and ROM
  • Additional I/O for peripheral support
  • Architected for ultimate single chip integration of wireless RF baseband
  • Supports Wireless baseband processor system on a chip
  • Architecture and tools suite optimized for time to market
  • Full J2ME and CLDC support
  • Increased performance of 20-40X that of other RTOS/JVM solutions by eliminating the need for an RTOS.
  • Designed for manufacturability and functionality
  • Pure Java application level software with no native interfaces
